Kia has come a long way since the days of the Sedona MPV, and the new all-electric, futuristic-looking EV9 launching in Europe towards the end of 2023 is proof of that. Kia’s design team has been working on creating cars that people desire, rather than just need. The EV9 is another part of Kia’s masterplan of having 14 EVs on sale by 2027, and its geometrically-inspired lines and customisable digital lighting patterns add up to a new design approach that will filter down to its smaller electric cars. The production-spec EV9 shares much with the concept that came before it, bar the even wilder interior, and has a newer generation of screens beyond the EV6. The EV9 also boasts new flexible seating options within the restrained interior, which is part of Kia’s phasing out of leather upholstery for plant-based components. The car also promises Level 3-ready autonomous driving technologies, a remote parallel parking assistant, and even vehicle-to-grid power supplementation. With a base price of around £65k in the UK, the EV9 seems to be pointing towards Kia’s entry into the premium segment, but the brand’s executive team insists that they’re not trying to go ‘premium’. |
