India: The Next China?

Last updated on April 10, 2023

India is increasing its presence in the space industry, taking advantage of the geopolitical isolation of China and Russia to present itself as a reliable alternative to SpaceX. The state-owned NewSpace India Ltd. launched 36 communications satellites for OneWeb Ltd. last month, highlighting India’s ambitions in the sector. India’s success in the space industry is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Make in India” campaign, which aims to make the country a top destination for technological innovation. Although India still has a long way to go to catch up to China’s dominance in the industry, the country is a popular choice for cost-efficient launches and is projected to see significant growth in the sector in the coming years.

Complex Terms:

  • SpaceX – Private American aerospace company founded by Elon Musk to explore space more affordably and colonize Mars.
